| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation targets the 'log' GET parameter of html/configuracao/configuracao_geral.php, which is base64-decoded and rendered inside a <pre> tag without HTML escaping (fixed by adding htmlspecialchars() in the displaySuccess/displayWarning/displayError message helpers in html/geral/msg.php). The payload must be base64-encoded to pass through the base64_decode() call. The primary limiting factor is required user interaction (UI:R): the victim must open the attacker-supplied link, so exploitation depends on successful social engineering. No authentication is required to craft the link (PR:N), and the affected code path is present in default WeGIA installations prior to 3.5.1. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity Reflected XSS (CWE-79) with a balanced, non-alarming real-world risk profile. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, base 6.1) indicates network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated exploitation but critically requires user interaction (UI:R) - the victim must open an attacker-crafted link, which is the dominant limiting factor. The scope change (S:C) reflects script execution crossing from the server-rendered page into the victim's browser context, consistent with the limited C:L/I:L impact of reflected XSS. Exploitation signals are mixed but coherent: a public exploit exists (GHSA-g6hr-2rhx-f8q4) yet EPSS is low at 0.26% (16th percentile) and the CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, so there is publicly available exploit code but no evidence of active exploitation. These signals do not conflict - a low EPSS alongside available POC code is typical for a niche product requiring user interaction. Bottom line: a legitimate bug worth patching, but not an emergency; prioritize behind unauthenticated RCEs and KEV-listed issues. No SSVC decision data was provided in the input. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a URL to configuracao_geral.php with a malicious payload in the base64-encoded 'log' parameter and delivers it to a WeGIA user (e.g., an institution administrator) via phishing or a chat message. When the victim opens the link, the decoded, unescaped value is reflected into a <pre> block and the injected JavaScript executes in their browser, enabling session/cookie theft or actions in the WeGIA interface. A public POC exists via the GitHub security advisory, lowering the skill barrier. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026
Reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) in WeGIA versions prior to 3.5.1 allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary JavaScript that executes in a victim's browser when the victim opens a crafted link, enabling session theft, credential harvesting, or page defacement within the application's origin. The flaw resides in the base64-decoded 'log' GET parameter processed by html/configuracao/configuracao_geral.php and rendered unescaped inside a <pre> tag via the message helpers in html/geral/msg.php. Publicly available exploit code exists and the vendor has released a fix in 3.5.1; EPSS is low at 0.26% (16th percentile) and there is no confirmed active exploitation (CISA KEV). Exploitation requires user interaction (UI:R) - the victim must follow an attacker-supplied link - so real-world risk is moderate and dependent on social engineering.
RemediationAI
Upgrade WeGIA to version 3.5.1 or later; this is the exact version containing the vendor-released patch, applied via commit eddb9b134883cac5d0de770bfcca6e05bfcbd684, which introduces htmlspecialchars() around the 'log' value in html/geral/msg.php. The vendor advisory at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/security/advisories/GHSA-g6hr-2rhx-f8q4 and the patch commit at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/commit/eddb9b134883cac5d0de770bfcca6e05bfcbd684 provide the authoritative fix details. If upgrade cannot be performed immediately, apply a targeted virtual patch or WAF rule that rejects or encodes requests whose 'log' query parameter contains HTML-significant characters after base64 decoding, and deploy a restrictive Content-Security-Policy that disallows inline script; both mitigations reduce exploitability but carry the side effect of potentially breaking legitimate log-message display and may generate false positives in application workflows. Because the attack is delivered as a crafted link and requires user interaction (UI:R), also train users not to open unsolicited WeGIA links and consider referrer/URL filtering at the perimeter as a compensating control.

WeGIA is an open-source PHP web application ('Web Manager for Institutions') aimed primarily at Portuguese-speaking organizations. The vulnerability is a classic CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation / Reflected XSS). In html/geral/msg.php, the displayMsg() function reads $_GET['log'], applies base64_decode() to it, and passes the result into displaySuccess(), displayWarning(), or displayError(), which interpolated the value directly into a '<pre>$log</pre>' block without output encoding. Because configuracao_geral.php reaches this code path, an attacker can supply a base64-encoded JavaScript payload in the 'log' parameter; the browser then parses it as HTML/JS within the trusted origin. The upstream commit eddb9b134883cac5d0de770bfcca6e05bfcbd684 fixes this by wrapping the value with htmlspecialchars() before output. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:wegia:wegia:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* indicates the vulnerable code is present across WeGIA releases up to the 3.5.1 fix, and the CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) confirms a network-reachable, unauthenticated attack that changes the scope of impact (S:C) and requires victim interaction (UI:R).
