| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a valid authenticated WeGIA session (CVSS PR:L) with access to the product-registration workflow that posts to /controle/control.php. The injectable input is the descricao parameter, which in vulnerable versions (<= 3.4.12) is concatenated directly into a SELECT ... WHERE descricao='...' query with no parameter binding. No user interaction beyond the attacker's own request and no non-default configuration is needed; the limiting factor is the authentication requirement - an unauthenticated outsider cannot reach the vulnerable endpoint. Fixed in 3.5.0 via FILTER_SANITIZE_SPECIAL_CHARS on input and PDO prepared statements. |
| Impact | Signals are consistent but point to a contained, lower-urgency issue despite the high score. The CVSS 4.0 base score of 9.4 (CRITICAL) reflects an authenticated SQL injection with full CIA impact (VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) over the network (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N), and the vendor commit confirms the root cause - unsanitized string concatenation of the descricao value into a raw SQL query in dao/ProdutoDAO.php, fixed by switching to prepared statements with bound parameters. However, real-world exploitation signals are weak: EPSS is only 0.03% (9th percentile), there is NO CISA KEV listing, and the vulnerability requires valid authentication (PR:L). A public exploit path exists only as the GitHub Security Advisory (GHSA-v8hm-pq8g-c7j4), not a weaponized exploit kit. The practical risk is therefore moderate rather than emergency-tier: the flaw is genuine and fully confirmed by source code, but it needs an authenticated account and affects a niche product with a tiny deployment footprint, which explains the very low EPSS. Note the one nuance: PR:L requires an attacker to already hold a low-privilege application account, so this is more realistically an insider/privilege-escalation-of-data-access scenario than mass opportunistic exploitation. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker holding a low-privilege WeGIA account submits a crafted descricao value to /controle/control.php; because the value was concatenated directly into a SELECT query, the injected SQL executes against the database. A public GitHub Security Advisory documents the flaw, and the fixing commit confirms the exact unparameterized query, so reproducing the injection is straightforward for anyone with account access. |

Authenticated SQL injection in WeGIA 3.4.12 and earlier allows a logged-in user to execute arbitrary SQL statements through the descricao parameter handled by the /controle/control.php endpoint, compromising the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the underlying database. Exploitation requires a valid WeGIA session with access to the product-registration workflow (assessed vector PR:L, network reachable, no user interaction), and publicly available exploit code exists, although EPSS is only 0.03% (9th percentile), indicating limited observed activity so far. The vendor addressed the flaw in version 3.5.0 by sanitizing product input and replacing the concatenated query with a PDO prepared statement.

RemediationAI
Upgrade to WeGIA 3.5.0, the vendor-released fixed version, which applies filter_var(FILTER_SANITIZE_SPECIAL_CHARS) to descricao and codigo in classes/Produto.php and replaces the string-concatenated existence query in dao/ProdutoDAO.php with a PDO prepared statement using bindValue(':descricao', ..., PDO::PARAM_STR); see the patch commit at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/commit/84958eed73741a544859eea297908db3b83b3833 and the advisory at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/security/advisories/GHSA-v8hm-pq8g-c7j4. If immediate upgrading is not possible, compensating controls should target the authenticated access requirement that makes exploitation harder: restrict WeGIA account provisioning and the product-registration/editing role to the minimum set of trusted staff and review dormant or shared accounts, since the endpoint is unreachable without a valid session; place the application behind authentication-aware rate limiting or a WAF rule matching SQL metacharacters and comment sequences in requests to /controle/control.php (accepting that generic WAF signatures produce false positives on legitimate free-text product descriptions); and run the WeGIA database account with least privilege - SELECT/INSERT/UPDATE only on application tables, no DDL, file, or administrative privileges - so that a successful injection cannot escalate to file writes or privilege changes. Note that these are mitigations, not fixes, and the database-level integrity damage from a successful injection may persist after patching, so review produto and related tables for unexpected rows or altered descriptions. No public exploitation in the wild has been confirmed via CISA KEV, but proof-of-concept code is publicly available, so prioritizing the 3.5.0 upgrade remains advisable despite the low 0.03% EPSS score.

Technical ContextAI · show details
This is a textbook CWE-89 SQL injection in a PHP web application (tags: PHP, SQLi, WeGIA). WeGIA is a PHP-based web manager for charitable institutions, and the vulnerable data flow runs through the produto (product) registration workflow: controle/ProdutoControle.php collects request parameters - including id_categoria and id_unidade from $_REQUEST - and the attacker-controlled descricao value reaches dao/ProdutoDAO.php, where the pre-fix code performed an existence check by string concatenation: SELECT id_produto, oculto FROM produto WHERE descricao='" . $produto->getDescricao() . "'. Because the value was interpolated into a quoted SQL literal instead of being bound, a crafted descricao could terminate the literal and append arbitrary SQL. The remediation commit (84958eed73741a544859eea297908db3b83b3833) does two things: it applies filter_var($descricao, FILTER_SANITIZE_SPECIAL_CHARS) in the Produto model setter (and likewise for codigo), and it rewrites the DAO check as a prepared statement with bindValue(':descricao', $produto->getDescricao(), PDO::PARAM_STR); it also converts the controller's integer parameters to FILTER_SANITIZE_NUMBER_INT and routes errors through Util::tratarException(). The CPE cpe:2.3:a:wegia:wegia:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms WeGIA as the affected product with no version binding, and EUVD lists 'WeGIA < 3.5.0' as the affected range. The assessed CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H is consistent with network-exploitable SQL injection that nonetheless requires a low-privileged authenticated session, which is the primary limiting factor rather than any non-default configuration.

5DescriptionCVE.org
WeGIA is a Web manager for charitable institutions. Versions 3.4.12 and below include an SQL Injection vulnerability which was identified in the /controle/control.php endpoint, specifically in the descricao parameter. This vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands, compromising the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the database. This issue is fixed in version 3.5.0.
Executive ViewAI
WeGIA 3.4.12 and earlier expose organizations to a critical authenticated database compromise risk through the product-registration workflow. Publicly available exploit code exists, so internal or external users with valid session access could abuse the vulnerable endpoint to access, alter, or disrupt database contents. Leadership should prioritize urgent remediation, especially if this platform supports sensitive operational or customer data.
