Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires access to the Junos Space template creation pages to store the malicious script, and critically requires a second user - ideally an administrator - to subsequently view the attacker-controlled template page for the payload to fire (UI:A/active interaction). Limiting factors: this is stored XSS confined to the victim's authenticated management session (SC:L/SI:L, no direct system impact), it needs a privileged victim to view the content to achieve meaningful impact, and despite the vendor's PR:N rating, reaching the template creation function realistically presupposes an authenticated Junos Space account. Affected: all Junos Space versions before 24.1R4 (24.1R1 through 24.1R3 explicitly enumerated); fixed in 24.1R4.

Impact

This is a stored cross-site scripting (CWE-79) flaw in Junos Space template creation pages, rated by the vendor (Juniper SIRT) at CVSS 4.0 5.1 (medium). The 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N) shows a network vector with low complexity but requires active victim interaction (UI:A) - another user, ideally an administrator, must open the poisoned template page - and impact is confined to the subsequent-system (SC:L/SI:L), i.e. the victim's authenticated session, with no direct impact on the vulnerable system itself. No EPSS score, CISA KEV listing, or public proof-of-concept is present in the supplied data, so exploitation status is: no public exploit identified at time of analysis. One notable conflict: the vendor vector asserts PR:N (unauthenticated), yet the description has the attacker injecting payloads into template creation pages, which in Junos Space is an authenticated management function - the injection step realistically requires some level of authenticated access, so the true attacker privilege is likely PR:L rather than PR:N (verify with vendor advisory JSA103140). The medium score is appropriate: real-world risk is gated by the need for a privileged victim to view attacker-controlled content, making this a targeted, social-engineering-dependent issue rather than a mass-exploitable one, but successful exploitation against an administrator yields command execution with that admin's permissions within the management plane, which is a meaningful privilege-escalation/lateral-movement foothold in a network management platform.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A low-privileged Junos Space user (or an attacker who has compromised such an account) injects a script tag into a template creation page. When an administrator later opens or reviews that template, the stored payload executes in the admin's authenticated browser session, letting the attacker perform management actions with administrator permissions. No public PoC is available, and success depends on luring or waiting for a higher-privileged user to view the malicious template (UI:A).

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 01, 2026

Stored cross-site scripting in Juniper Networks Junos Space lets an attacker plant script tags in the template creation pages, which then execute in the browser of any user - including an administrator - who subsequently views the crafted template, running commands with that victim's privileges. All versions before 24.1R4 are affected, with 24.1R1 through 24.1R3 explicitly enumerated in the vendor's CPE data; the vendor has released 24.1R4 as the fix. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and the vendor rates this 5.1 (medium) under CVSS 4.0, though the vendor's PR:N rating is disputed - our assessment holds that reaching the template creation function realistically presupposes an authenticated Junos Space account (PR:L), and successful impact additionally requires a privileged second user to actively view the malicious template (UI:A).

RemediationAI

Upgrade to Junos Space 24.1R4, the vendor-released fixed version, which addresses the stored XSS in the template creation pages; the upgrade path and any intermediate-release requirements are documented in Juniper SIRT advisory JSA103140 at https://supportportal.juniper.net/JSA103140. Until the upgrade can be completed, reduce exposure by restricting who can create or edit templates - enforce least privilege on Junos Space accounts and remove template-authoring rights from users who do not require them, since the attacker needs an authenticated account able to reach the template creation function (a low-privileged account is sufficient, so the trade-off is reduced operational flexibility for delegated operators). Treat template content from other users as untrusted: administrators should avoid opening templates of unknown provenance, and where the deployment permits, apply a Content-Security-Policy that blocks inline script on the Junos Space web UI (a trade-off, as CSP can break legitimate UI functionality and is often unsupported by third-party management appliances). Note that no vendor workaround short of upgrading fully removes the stored payload, and that existing templates created before the fix should be reviewed and purged of injected markup after patching. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, so no signature-level detection guidance can be given beyond auditing template creation and update events in Junos Space logs.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Junos Space is Juniper's network management and orchestration platform, whose web UI includes template creation pages used to define and push configuration to managed devices; because these templates are authored once and viewed by other operators, they are a natural persistence vehicle for stored cross-site scripting (CWE-79, improper neutralization of input during web page generation). The root cause is missing or insufficient output encoding/neutralization when user-supplied template content is rendered back into HTML, so injected script tags are stored server-side and executed in the browser context of whoever opens the page. Both the vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N) and our independent CVSS 3.1 assessment (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) agree the impact is scoped to the victim's authenticated management session - low confidentiality and integrity impact on other components, no availability impact, and no direct compromise of the underlying Junos Space host or the managed network devices. The practical danger is privilege escalation of the attacker's reach: a low-privileged author can cause an administrator's browser to execute attacker-controlled script with administrator permissions inside the Junos Space UI.

DescriptionCVE.org

An Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') vulnerability in Juniper Networks Junos Space allows an attacker to inject script tags in the template creation pages that, when visited by another user, enable the attacker to execute commands with the target's permissions, including an administrator. This issue affects all versions of Junos Space before 24.1R4.
