HIGH 8.1

Description

In Modem, there is a possible out of bounds write due to a heap buffer overflow. This could lead to remote escalation of privilege, if a UE has connected to a rogue base station controlled by the attacker, with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation. Patch ID: MOLY01672601; Issue ID: MSV-4623.

Analysis

In Modem, there is a possible out of bounds write due to a heap buffer overflow. Rated high severity (CVSS 8.1), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable, no authentication required. No vendor patch available.

Technical Context

This vulnerability is classified as Out-of-bounds Write (CWE-787), which allows attackers to write data beyond allocated buffer boundaries leading to code execution or crashes. Affected products include: Mediatek Lr12A, Mediatek Nr15, Mediatek Nr16, Mediatek Nr17, Mediatek Nr17R.

Affected Products

Mediatek Lr12A, Mediatek Nr15, Mediatek Nr16, Mediatek Nr17, Mediatek Nr17R.

Remediation

No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Validate write boundaries, use memory-safe languages, enable compiler protections (ASLR, stack canaries).
