DescriptionCVE.org

The extract_name function in Fluent Bit in_docker input plugin copies container names into a fixed size stack buffer without validating length. An attacker who can create containers or control container names, can supply a long name that overflows the buffer, leading to process crash or arbitrary code execution.

AnalysisAI

The extract_name function in Fluent Bit in_docker input plugin copies container names into a fixed size stack buffer without validating length. Rated high severity (CVSS 8.8), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable, low attack complexity. No vendor patch available.

Technical ContextAI

This vulnerability is classified as Buffer Copy without Size Check (CWE-120), which allows attackers to overflow a buffer to corrupt adjacent memory. The extract_name function in Fluent Bit in_docker input plugin copies container names into a fixed size stack buffer without validating length. An attacker who can create containers or control container names, can supply a long name that overflows the buffer, leading to process crash or arbitrary code execution. Affected products include: Treasuredata Fluent Bit.

RemediationAI

No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Always validate buffer sizes before copy operations. Use bounded functions (strncpy, snprintf). Enable compiler protections.
