Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionNVD
In the Linux kernel through 5.2.14 on the powerpc platform, a local user can read vector registers of other users' processes via a Facility Unavailable exception. To exploit the venerability, a local user starts a transaction (via the hardware transactional memory instruction tbegin) and then accesses vector registers. At some point, the vector registers will be corrupted with the values from a different local Linux process because of a missing arch/powerpc/kernel/process.c check.
AnalysisAI
In the Linux kernel through 5.2.14 on the powerpc platform, a local user can read vector registers of other users' processes via a Facility Unavailable exception. Rated medium severity (CVSS 4.4), this vulnerability is low attack complexity. Public exploit code available.
Technical ContextAI
This vulnerability is classified as Missing Authorization (CWE-862), which allows attackers to access resources or perform actions without proper authorization checks. Affected products include: Linux Linux Kernel, Canonical Ubuntu Linux, Opensuse Leap, Redhat Enterprise Linux. Version information: through 5.2.14.
RemediationAI
A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Implement role-based access control, validate authorization on every request server-side, apply principle of least privilege.
